A fibrilação atrial se desenvolve como resultado de alterações estruturais do coração. As causas de FA nem sempre estão claras e podem ser complexas.1,2

As possíveis causas de fibrilação atrial são amplamente variáveis, com cardiopatia, idade, histórico familiar, pressão arterial alta, consumo de álcool, obesidade e outras condições crônicas sendo, todos, fatores que podem aumentar o seu risco de desenvolver FA.1,4
